Workshop on Beckhoff AI at AWS re:Invent 2025 explores the next generation of AI-driven solutions that go beyond traditional automation and enable autonomous decision-making in industrial production processes.

At AWS re:Invent 2025 in Las Vegas, Amazon Web Services is demonstrating how agentic AI is shaping the next generation of AI-driven solutions. The “Build your own AI-driven Industrial Automation System with Agentic AI” interactive workshop focuses on Beckhoff’s TwinCAT CoAgent AI assistant as the basis for autonomous decisions in industrial production.

AWS re:Invent, which is being held from December 1 to 5 in Las Vegas this year, has become one of the most important events for cloud technologies and a trend barometer for AI and automation.

Focus on agentic AI

Agentic AI is one topic that’s high on the agenda this year. The aim is to provide the next generation of AI-driven solutions that go beyond traditional automation and enable autonomous decision-making in industrial production processes. The “Build your own AI-driven Industrial Automation System with Agentic AI” practical workshop, which AWS is offering in cooperation with Beckhoff as part of the conference, is geared toward this aim. The focus is on TwinCAT CoAgent as an AI-based assistance system that addresses the entire machine lifecycle with dialog-oriented interaction.

Workshop participants will create an agent-based AI system that uses MCP (Model Context Protocol) and AWS tools to interpret P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams). They will also learn how to automatically generate TwinCAT 3 code and orchestrate deployments in distributed automation infrastructures. Through integration with AWS IoT SiteWise, the system provides a seamless connection to PLCs to manage data in real time and perform automatic updates to P&IDs, PLC logic, and hardware configurations.

A new level of efficiency

Practical exercises will give workshop participants at re:Invent 2025 the opportunity to see live how TwinCAT CoAgent can be combined with AWS technologies to create a new level of efficiency, flexibility, and intelligence in industrial automation – and thus closes the gap between design, simulation, and operation. “The collaboration with AWS clearly shows how AI and cloud technologies can change industrial automation,” emphasizes Jannis Doppmeier, TwinCAT product manager at Beckhoff. “By integrating TwinCAT CoAgent into AWS services, we’re enabling engineers to develop, deploy, and maintain intelligent control systems faster and more efficiently than ever before.”

As an open solution, TwinCAT CoAgent integrates established AI technologies as well as customer-specific developments. TwinCAT CoAgent for Engineering provides support for all development tasks – from code generation, debugging, and optimization to HMI creation and documentation. With TwinCAT CoAgent for Operations, Beckhoff consistently transfers the advantages to the operating phase of machines and systems. Highlights include AI-supported fault diagnostics and a voice-based interface.
